Paul Holland, Head of the Private Client Department at QualitySolicitors Lockings in Beverley, Hull and Hedon says:
“Last year we raised over £3,000, exceeding all expectations with regard to numbers of enquiries received through the Dove House Hospice ‘Make a Will Fortnight’ campaign. The message we convey is that making a will is a simple process that puts the mind at ease, knowing that financial affairs and a person’s wishes will be carried out as they request. Anyone who is a parent, owns property, is un-married, has become a grandparent, has money in the bank or is getting a divorce, really should have a will because it gives them the power to choose how assets are dealt with upon death. Not having a will can cause arguments and ill feeling within the family during this sad time.”
Katy Wood, fundraising coordinator at Dove House Hospice, said the charity is hoping to raise £10,000 from Make a Will Fortnight 2013.
She said: “This is our second Make a Will Fortnight and we’re very grateful for all the support we have received from QualitySolicitors Lockings, as well as the other solicitors involved. The appeal is very important not only in raising funds for Dove House Hospice but also in highlighting the importance of writing a Will and the value of leaving a legacy to a charity. Dove House Hospice has a yearly running cost of £6.1million and receives funding for the equivalent of just 45 days per year. The funds for the remaining 320 days are raised through the support of the local community and appeals like this one.”
